OpenAI has officially rolled out GPT-5, and with it comes a host of exciting updates to ChatGPT. These enhancements promise to offer users a more tailored experience, making interactions smoother, more engaging, and ultimately more effective. Let’s dive in to discover what’s new in ChatGPT.

Goodbye, Model Picker

One of the most notable changes with the introduction of GPT-5 is the removal of the model picker, which has often created confusion among users. OpenAI has retired several older models, including GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, and GPT-4.5. From now on, ChatGPT operates on GPT-5 by default utilizing a “single auto-switching system.” This new functionality amalgamates previous models into a singular, faster, and smarter model, eliminating the hassle of switching among various models for different tasks.

However, users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team editions can still access the model picker, allowing them to toggle between GPT-5 and GPT-5 Thinking, with Pro and Team users gaining access to GPT-Thinking Pro as well.

Discover Unique Personalities in ChatGPT

In an innovative twist, OpenAI has introduced four distinctive “personalities” that users can choose for text-based interactions. Each personality is crafted to offer a different flavor of conversation:

  • Cynic: Delivering sarcastic, blunt responses with a touch of wit, perfect for those who appreciate dry humor.
  • Robot: An emotionless but incredibly precise personality that delivers answers quickly and concisely.
  • Listener: This personality adopts a warm, laid-back tone, reflecting users’ thoughts with calming clarity and light wit.
  • Nerd: Playful and inquisitive, this persona explains concepts clearly while celebrating the joy of knowledge and discovery.

While these personalities add a fun dynamic to engagements, users can easily revert to ChatGPT’s traditional default style if they prefer a more classic interaction.

Improved Vibe Coding Capabilities

The essence of “vibe coding” has been refined with GPT-5, enhancing the ability to generate code based on natural language prompts. Users can now craft complex and descriptive requests for application or website creation, receiving quicker, more accurate results than before. A new feature—Canvas—allows users to see and interact with a preview of what the AI has generated, thereby providing a hands-on experience with their coding requests.

Customizing Your ChatGPT Experience

OpenAI recognizes that personalization enhances user satisfaction. In this update, it has simplified the customization of ChatGPT’s interface. Users can select their preferred accent color, which changes the appearance of conversation bubbles, voice buttons, and highlighted text.

To personalize on the web, users can navigate to their profile icon, choose Settings, then General to select their desired accent color. Mobile users can adjust settings similarly by tapping their profile picture, going to Personalization, and selecting Color Scheme.

Enhanced Voice Mode Capabilities

ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode is also receiving significant improvements. This feature now supports more natural-sounding spoken conversations and adapts better to instructions, making interactions more fluid. For paid subscribers, “near-unlimited” access to advanced voice mode is available, while free users can expect added hours of usage. Furthermore, advanced voice mode is fully compatible with custom GPTs, enhancing flexibility and user experience.

Seamless Integration with Gmail and Google Calendar

Another exciting introduction is the compatibility with Gmail and Google Calendar. If users request assistance in scheduling tasks or managing daily priorities, ChatGPT can now prompt them to connect their Gmail or Calendar account. Once linked, ChatGPT will intelligently draw from users’ schedules and emails, making it easier to plan days, remind about missed emails, and more.

Pro users will gain access to this functionality shortly, with plans for additional tiers to follow.

These updates reflect OpenAI’s commitment to continually enhancing user experience and productivity through AI interactions, making ChatGPT a more indispensable tool for a wide range of applications. Whether you are a casual user, a productivity guru, or a developer, there’s something in this update to improve your interaction with AI.
