1X Partners with EQT to Launch Humanoid Robots for Industrial Use

In a significant move for the robotics industry, 1X recently announced a strategic partnership with EQT, a prominent Swedish multi-asset investor. This collaboration aims to distribute thousands of 1X’s cutting-edge humanoid robots, specifically the Neo model, to EQT’s extensive network of portfolio companies.

The agreement, unveiled on Thursday, entails the shipment of up to 10,000 Neo humanoid robots from 2026 to 2030. EQT boasts over 300 portfolio companies, predominantly in sectors like manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics. 1X has informed TechCrunch that it will negotiate individual contracts with each interested portfolio company under the EQT umbrella. This tailored approach ensures that the deployment of the Neo robots is optimized for various industry needs.

Focus on Humanoid Robotics

What makes this partnership particularly intriguing is the unique positioning of the 1X Neo. Unlike many competitors in the humanoid space, such as Figure, the Neo has primarily been promoted as a consumer-friendly robot designed for home use—touted as the "first consumer-ready humanoid robot." This pivot towards industrial applications represents a strategic shift for the company.

While 1X does have an industrial model, identified as Eve Industrial, the current focus remains squarely on the Neo humanoid.

1X has not disclosed specific preorder figures for the Neo; however, representatives mentioned that demand "far exceeded" initial expectations, suggesting a stronger-than-anticipated interest in the robot’s capabilities.

Founded in 2014, 1X has rapidly positioned itself as a leader in humanoid robotics, securing more than $130 million in venture capital. Notable investors include EQT Ventures, Tiger Global, and the OpenAI Startup Fund. This financial backing not only fuels the development of innovative technologies but also enhances the company’s capability to execute large-scale partnerships like the one with EQT.
