Who Should Enroll?

This five-week online cohort is specially designed for practitioners who have a minimum of five years of experience in engineering or architecture roles. Participants will engage in in-depth discussions and practices that surround the unique challenges presented by AI systems.

Facilitated by Katharine Jarmul, a renowned expert in data privacy and author of Practical Data Privacy (O’Reilly), the program aims to present a comprehensive view of how security and privacy intersect with AI development. Each session runs for four hours a week, allowing participants to delve deeply into the material while balancing their professional commitments.

Navigating the Complexity of AI Security and Privacy

As AI applications transition from experimental phases to critical business tools, the challenges and questions become increasingly specific. Security and privacy practices within organizations are often limited to internal perspectives, which creates a vulnerability due to the lack of external checks on decision-making.

Each week, participants will apply a framework drawn from a QCon talk to a real security or privacy decision encountered in their work. This collaborative format allows teams to discuss what strategies were effective, what obstacles remain, and how they can better address ongoing uncertainties.

The methodology encourages a transparent and honest dialogue among peers, leading to richer insights and stronger decision-making frameworks.

Course Structure and Topics

The five-week syllabus is thoughtfully crafted to cover a spectrum of critical topics in AI security and privacy:

  1. Working with Sensitive Data in AI Workflows: Exploring data classification, compliance requirements, and the nuances of data handling.
  2. Threat Modeling and Red Teaming: Utilization of methodologies like STRIDE, LINDDUN, and Plot4AI to conduct thorough risk assessments.
  3. Controls and Sandboxes: Creating effective testing environments to evaluate potential risks before implementation.
  4. Observability and Evaluation: Employing tools such as Arize Phoenix for ongoing monitoring and assessment of AI applications.
  5. Governance and Auditing: Structuring robust governance frameworks to ensure compliance and accountability.

As a capstone project, each working group will produce a documented risk assessment and mitigation report for an AI product architecture. The standout reports may even be published on InfoQ, offering participants a prestigious platform to showcase their work.
