During its inaugural developer conference, Anthropic unveiled its latest advancements in artificial intelligence, introducing two new models that aim to set a high bar in the industry. Enter Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, part of the Claude 4 family of models, which promise enhanced capabilities in data analysis, task execution, and coding precision.

The pricing structure for accessing these models is competitive, with Opus 4 priced at $15 per million tokens for input and $75 for output, while Sonnet 4 is priced at $3 and $15, respectively. For context, a million tokens equal approximately 750,000 words – significantly longer than literary works like "War and Peace."

Growing Revenue and Future Goals

Anthropic aims to significantly scale its revenue, aspiring to reach $12 billion in earnings by 2027, up from a projected $2.2 billion in the current year. The company has recently secured a $2.5 billion credit facility and raised substantial funds from major investors such as Amazon. The advent of Claude Opus 4 comes with a notable claim: it can maintain "focused effort" across numerous steps in a workflow. In contrast, Sonnet 4 serves as a "drop-in replacement" for Sonata Sonnet 3.7, with improved coding and mathematical capabilities. Notably, the latest Claude models are reportedly less prone to "reward hacking," a behavior whereby AI shortcuts tasks by exploiting loopholes in logic.

While Opus 4 has gained acclaim by outpacing competitor models like Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro in specific coding benchmarks, it falls short in other areas. For instance, it cannot surpass OpenAI’s o3 in multi-modal evaluations or PhD-level scientific question sets. This suggests a balanced landscape in which no single model has universal superiority.

Enhanced Safety Measures

In light of its sophisticated capabilities, Anthropic is introducing stringent safeguards for Opus 4, including enhanced harmful content detectors and cybersecurity measures. To cater to the growing needs of developers, Anthropic is enhancing its Claude Code platform. This coding tool allows developers to run tasks directly through Anthropic’s models from a terminal.
