Event Location and Dates
The hackathon kicks off in Tokyo, Japan, from December 5-7, 2025. Following that, we’re heading to Paris, France, for another round from December 12-14, 2025. Mark your calendars, gather your team, and gear up for an unforgettable experience filled with creativity and collaboration.
Preparing for the Hackathon
Team Formation
Participants can form teams of up to four roboticists aged 18 and older. This collaborative aspect not only fosters teamwork but also enables sharing diverse perspectives and skills throughout the competition.
Missions Breakdown
During the hackathon, teams will undertake two exciting missions:
-
Mission 1: This instructor-led session guides participants through the setup of the LeRobot development environment using AMD AI solutions. This mission serves as your foundation, equipping you with the necessary tools and knowledge to tackle the challenges ahead.
- Mission 2: After the preparation session, it’s time to let your creativity shine! Teams will work collaboratively to devise unique solutions to real-world problems using the LeRobot platform. You’ll have two days to develop your innovative freestyle project.
Skills and Technical Proficiency
To make the most of the hackathon experience, participants are encouraged to have the following skills:
- Strong Linux Development Skills: Familiarity with Linux is vital for navigating development environments efficiently.
- Proficiency in Python: Python is a key language in robotics and AI; experience with related tooling and containerization is a plus.
- Machine Learning Knowledge: Hands-on experience with model training and inference, particularly with PyTorch, will be beneficial.
- Bonus Skills: If your team has experience with ROCm, LeRobot, and embedded development, you’re already ahead of the game!
Provided Hardware and Resources
The hackathon will supply contestants with essential hardware, including:
- SO-101 Robotics Kits: These kits are vital for building your projects.
- AMD Ryzen™ AI Processor Laptops: Equipped with powerful processors to facilitate your development.
- AMD Instinct™ MI300X GPUs: Available on the AMD Developer Cloud to give you the processing power needed for your machine learning tasks.
User guides and other related information will be provided at the start of the contest, allowing you to hit the ground running.
Prizes and Judging Criteria
In the spirit of healthy competition, enticing prizes await the top-performing teams. Seven teams in each city will be awarded prizes, with the first-place team receiving an impressive $10,000!
Judging will assess how well teams complete both missions, with criteria focusing on:
- Creativity: How unique and innovative your solution is.
- Difficulty: The challenges you overcame during the development.
- Ease of Use: How user-friendly your final product is.
- Practicality: Real-world applicability of your project.
Each project will be evaluated on a 100-point scale to determine winners.
