Indonesia’s Golden 2045 Vision: Accelerating Progress with AI
As one of the world’s largest emerging markets, Indonesia is on a transformative journey towards its “Golden 2045 Vision.” This initiative aims to leverage digital technologies to improve productivity, efficiency, and innovation across various sectors. A central component of this vision is the robust development of the nation’s artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, vital for fostering sustainable economic growth.
Collaboration for AI Advancement
Indonesian telecommunications leader Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, often referred to as Indosat or IOH, is at the forefront of this endeavor. In partnership with industry giants Cisco and NVIDIA, Indosat is working to establish the Indonesia AI Center of Excellence (CoE). Spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs—known as Komdigi—this CoE aims to advance the nation’s AI capabilities through secure technological advancements, local talent development, and rich collaboration with startups.
Insights from Industry Leaders
During Indonesia AI Day—a pivotal conference that explores AI’s potential for driving digital independence and economic growth—key figures shared their insights on the CoE. Vikram Sinha, Indosat’s President Director and CEO, emphasized the initiative’s focus on enabling Indonesians not only to use AI but to innovate and create with it. Chuck Robbins, Cisco’s Chair and CEO, highlighted the necessity for a fundamentally skilled workforce that can thrive in the AI era. Supporting this, Ronnie Vasishta from NVIDIA stated the importance of democratizing AI, aiming to build a sustainable ecosystem capable of serving as a model for other nations.
Infrastructure and Security Integration
The CoE will feature an AI factory equipped with a full-stack NVIDIA AI infrastructure. This cutting-edge setup includes NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, Cloud Partner architectures, and AI Enterprise software—alongside an intelligent security system powered by Cisco. Dubbed the Sovereign Security Operations Center Cloud Platform, this system will utilize AI-based threat detection while ensuring localized data control and security services, solidifying Indonesia’s position in the global AI landscape.
Core Pillars of Indonesia’s AI Strategy
The strategy behind the CoE revolves around four core pillars:
- Sovereign Infrastructure: Building secure, scalable, and high-performance AI workloads tailored to Indonesia’s digital goals.
- Secure AI Workloads: Harnessing Cisco’s intelligent infrastructure to protect national digital assets and intellectual property.
- AI for All: Providing hundreds of millions of Indonesians access to AI by 2027, breaking down regional barriers and empowering local developers.
- Talent and Development Ecosystem: Equipping 1 million individuals with digital skills in areas like networking, security, and AI by 2027.
Through these pillars, the CoE is already making strides. Approximately 28 independent software vendors and startups are utilizing the NVIDIA-powered AI infrastructure to create innovative solutions across various domains, including higher education, food security, and healthcare.
Leveraging Language Models for Inclusive Development
Indosat’s extensive reach throughout the archipelago positions it to cater to hundreds of millions of Bahasa Indonesian speakers. Integrating its Sahabat-AI initiative, the company is focusing on developing large language model (LLM) applications tailored to the Indonesian context. For instance, it is collaborating with Hippocratic AI and the government to create an AI agent system that helps women over 50 to schedule crucial mammograms, thus enabling preventive healthcare measures.
Additionally, the Sahabat-AI initiative powers an AI chatbot capable of assisting citizens with queries concerning essential services, from national identification card updates to tax inquiries. This ensures that AI technology directly addresses the needs of the local population, fostering greater engagement and accessibility.
Fostering Trustworthy AI
A government-led forum is also working to establish trustworthy AI frameworks tailored to Indonesian values. This is crucial in promoting the safe and responsible development of AI technologies and related policies, ensuring these innovations align with societal norms and expectations.
Future Horizons in AI Deployment
Looking ahead, Indosat and NVIDIA are planning to deploy AI-RAN technologies, facilitating broader reach and accessibility of AI over wireless networks. This approach aims to further integrate AI into various sectors, enhancing both productivity and service delivery for millions across Indonesia.
By focusing on collaboration, innovative infrastructure, and inclusive accessibility, Indonesia is on a promising path toward realizing its Golden 2045 Vision, with AI at the heart of its transformation.
